Writing: Two things I would like to suggest; write within your areas of interest and don't book more than you can handle. New writers think they have to take everything and anything that comes along. Don't do it. Pick and choose so you can meet deadlines and have fun with your writing.
Marketing: This is not a down economy. I repeat...this is not a down economy. Granted there are some major companies such as Eastman Kodak who just filed Chapter 11, and Sears and K-Mart who are closing stores, but there are other smaller companies out there that are being started by former employees of these major giants. They all need good writers to market their business. That's where your writing expertise comes into the picture.
